The future of cars is not one where vehicles purchased at your friendly neighborhood Volvo dealership in Indianapolis, IN fly in the air, but rather one where the vehicles essentially drive themselves. In fact, with the current bevy of ultra-intelligent advanced safety technologies, there already are vehicles that can drive autonomously with minimal assistance from the human being behind the wheel, but Volvo is working diligently to put themselves at the forefront of this movement by teaming up with ride-share powerhouse Uber to develop the next generation of autonomous cars.
"Volvo is a world leader in the development of active safety and autonomous drive technology and possesses an unrivaled safety credibility," said HÃ¥kan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars. "We are very proud to be the partner of choice for Uber, one of the world's leading technology companies. This alliance places Volvo at the heart of the current technological revolution in the automotive industry."
Specifically, the agreement will include a shared effort in technological advancements, and the organizations will be working together to fine-tune the things that make self-driving cars go. Volvo will manufacture "base cars," which Uber will purchase and use as part of their own autonomous vehicle strategies. Essentially, Indianapolis, IN customers will someday drive vehicles that are so safe that it will be almost impossible to get into an accident, while Uber will be given the opportunity to offer the safest ride-share in the industry.
Here at Tom Wood Volvo, we love the top-rated new and pre-owned Volvo models that we already sell, but we look forward to seeing how safety technology continues to develop in the near future!
